The names of 25 states at the time of Abraham Lincoln's death along with the 11 states that had seceded are enscribed in the entablature of the Lincoln Memorial along with the date they joined the Union. Another 22 states that had joined the Union by the time the memorial was completed in 1922 are carved on the exterior attic wall.
