New World Cloud Forest
The cool mist and fog of the Chiapas, Mexico cloud forest provides an environment similar to San Francisco, and plants from there thrive in Strybings New World Cloud Forest. Mexico holds fourth place worldwide in diversity of plant species, with 25,000 species registered out of the 250,000 that exist throughout the world.

Old World Cloud Forest
The Old World Cloud Forest contains Asian plant species. Many are rare or endangered. Rhodedendrons that are more often found at high elevations in Southeastern Asia can be enjoyed here. This link will take you to a map of cloud forest sites in South-East Asia.
Eric Walther Succulent Garden

Many plant families contain succulent species that have adapted to the arid climates of deserts and semi-deserts by evolving special mechanisms to collect and conserve the limited moisture that may only be available from dews, mists and fogs. Succulent plants store the water they capture during the rainy season in their swollen leaves, stems, branches and roots and then, during the dry season, gradually use it.

Convergent evolution has often resulted in similar solutions to the problems of living in a harsh environment, so it may not be obvious that plants that look very much alike belong to different families except when they are flowering.

Puya are terrestrial bromeliads, like the pineapple and range from Costa Rica to Chile. They form tight colonies of shoots which last for many years. Each colony presents a crown of long, downcurved, pointed leaves. They often have viciously spiny margins. Blooming varies from two to thirty years. The stem starts out looking like a giant asparagus, then frequently becomes widely branched, along which several to hundreds of showy, tubular to flaring blossoms unfurl in succession. Flower colors include turquoise and aqua shades, as well as reds, pinks, yellows and whites, often in combinations.

Barrel Cactus flowers always grow at the top of the plant. Most barrel cactus have 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 inch yellow-green or red flowers growing in a crown near the top of the stem. Most species bloom April through June, depending on conditions.

Aloe ciliaris is a small climbing aloe. It climbs by sending long stems into bushes.
Jennie B. Zellerbach Garden of Perennials

Herbaceous perennials are non-woody plants that live three or more years under local growing conditions, dying back to the ground each winter.
Perennials generally bloom for only about a month, unlike annuals, which typically bloom all season. A mix of plants can be grown to achieve a succession of blooms from early spring to late fall. Coming in all shapes and sizes, perennials include plant families from bulbs such as daffodils to herbs like oregano. Trees and shrubs are perennials too.
