Livermore Valley Winery and Tasting Room
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
Drive through the gate, up the driveway, left at the blue house to parking in back. There where chickens peck about under vines, and a couple sweet dogs loll on the grass, is the big barn where Brett and Monique Caires craft their wine from vine to crush to bottle. Every bit of their wine sells out in three to six months.
The colorful tasting room in the barn looks straight out of the Wild West. Brett built it out of recycled wood from an old winery, and tables from an old San Francisco orphanage make up the wine bar.
Brett’s affinity for wine lies deep in his Portuguese genes. “We always had wine on the table,” he says. His introduction to fine wines came in 1986 when he began waiting tables and cooking at Wente’s Restaurant.
Brett got the “wine bug” when he and Karl Wente took a trip to Europe and sampled regional wines. After that, Brett forayed into Real Estate, saving up until he and Monique bought this five acres of farmland. They planted their first vines in 2000 and crafted their first wine in 2002.
Fascinating Fact:
Family legend claims Brett’s great grandfather was deported for making wine during Prohibition.
