You can miss this winery if you are not careful.
It’s located deep in an industrial complex off South Vasco Road. The side door of owner-winemaker Jim Frost’s tiny but charming tasting room opens into an enormous facility where he takes grapes from crush to barrel to bottling. He says his location doesn’t have the vineyard ambiance, but it has excellent facilities for winemaking. And his big thing is to make the winery educational. He offers classes in winemaking, wine tasting, wine and food pairing and more.
Jim grew up in Cambridge, England, where he learned winemaking from his mother. It was inevitable that when he was sent to the Bay Area in 1989 by a bio-tech company, that he would eventually end up making wine.
He uses his own bins to pick up grapes from Livermore, Napa Valley, and the North Coast, working with growers who are ecological minded. “Working closely with the vineyards,” he says, “we can determine the best times to harvest to maximize the flavors and produce wine that needs a minimum of intervention from the winemaker.”

Jim Frost’s mother made wine from just about anything, turnips, rasberries, plums, parsnips.
