Livermore Valley Winery and Tasting Room
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
Flanked by fruitless plum trees, the driveway leads up behind Dan and Connie Davis’ home to their tasting room.
Surrounding rolling hills and vineyards are calming here. In the back 10 acres, 28-year-old Big Red (a rescue horse) grazes.
Jessie, an aging golden retriever, may be lying on the tasting room deck alongside the 1925 Ford, Model TT truck (with its original engine).
Weekends, there’s music, food pairings, and some pretty squawky talk from the 30-year-old blue and gold Macaw.
When the Davis’ decided to change their lifestyle, Connie left her job as a childcare teacher and Dan left his Red Feather construction company. They started their winery in 2008.
When their winemaker quit after a year, Dan, Connie and son Jeremy toddled off to UC Davis to study winemaking, and have surprised themselves by winning awards.
Red Feather was first in the valley to create a white Cabernet Sauvignon. “You just leave the skins in a short time,” Connie says, “and then put the juice straight into stainless steel. Red Feather was voted best winery in Livermore on SFGate.com.
