Livermore Valley Winery and Tasting Room
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
You don’t expect to find a winery on East Avenue. There’s a long string of homes and apartments, then on the south side of the street, a stretch of open land, some cows, a vineyard, and finally a sign. There behind an old clapboard house is Ryhan tasting room.
Owner Mohan Rao Ravulapati came from a farming family in southern India where he was introduced to wine. Mohan came to America in the 1980s, eventually moving his family to Cupertino. He began exploring Northern California Wines while he worked for IBM, and established retail and real estate businesses. He took winemaking classes, trips to Napa and Sonoma, learning all he could about wine.
In 2000, Mohan began training under a European winemaker in Napa Valley. By 2007, he produced his award winning Rouge-Sange and Malbec.
The grapes for Ryhan wines are sourced from Livermore, Napa, Lodi, Amador and the Sierra Foothills. Most of the processing is done in Lodi, barrel-aging in French and American oak.
Fascinating Fact:
Mohan’s son, Rahul, took a letter from each family member’s name to create the name Ryhan.
