John Anthony Truchard was raised in the grape farming business: his parents founded Truchard Vineyards in 1974, and John began learning about wines at an early age.

After completing his schooling at UC Davis in the mid-1990s, he started a small vineyard management business, Vinewerkes, with an eye toward eventually founding his own winery.

After a few years of tending other people’s vineyards, he began leasing land and planting his own vineyards in southern Napa Valley. When the vineyards came into production in 2003, John and his wife Michele founded John Anthony Vineyards, with all wines made from the grapes planted and farmed by John.

The John Anthony Vineyards Tasting Lounge, located in the upscale Avia Hotel, stays open late seven nights a week. Guests can enjoy John Anthony wines by the glass or in a flight consisting of five to seven pours; private tastings can be scheduled in advance. Charcuterie and cheese plates are available. The ambience is hip and modern, within walking distance of downtown Napa restaurants, theaters, art galleries, and other attractions.

Fascinating Fact:

Making wine goes way back in the Truchard family. John’s father, Tony, learned about growing grapes from his grandfather, a Frenchman who owned a Texas farm.
