Winery Tasting Room in Napa, California
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
Stonehedge’s founder, Shahin Shahabi, was born in Iran into a Jewish family that had maintained a vineyard for generations in a region that archeologists believe was the original birthplace of wine (the Zagross mountains near Ajjii Firuz Tepe).
In 1979, after the Ayatollah Khomeini took power, Jews fled the country. The Shahabi family resettled in California.
Shahin became a citizen, earned a degree in economics from UCLA, and began importing wines. In 1989 he returned to the family’s winemaking roots by founding Stonehedge Cellars. When the first wine was released in 1992, it was deemed a “Best Buy” by Wine Spectator. Stonehedge wines have won numerous awards over the years and are known for their affordability.
Located in a charming building in downtown Napa, Stonehedge offers a friendly atmosphere, attentive service, and generous pours. The tasting room has a relaxed, rustic feel. It’s nicely decorated in Tuscan colors, with art on display and New Age music playing softly in the background. You can lean against the bar while tasting or sit in one of the comfy couches.
Fascinating Fact:
Shahin Shahabi’s great-grandfather, Agha Khan Moghtader, was the first Jewish representative to Iran’s senate.
