Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
Back in the early 1970s Jack and Dolores Cakebread lived in Oakland, California, where they owned and ran an auto garage.
One day Jack,
who was also an accomplished photographer, came to Napa Valley to take photographs for a book. While there, he stopped off for lunch with friends on their Rutherford ranch. Before leaving, he mentioned that he hoped to own a vineyard some day. “If you ever decide to sell,” he added, “let me know.”
They called him later that very day and soon the Cakebreads were commuting to the Oakland garage from Rutherford while planting vines on weekends. Today, family-run Cakebread Cellars is an internationally-esteemed wine company.
Cakebread is a great place to visit with seven tasting and touring options that let you customize your experience. You can opt for a simple overview of current selections or a close look at single-vineyard designates—or maybe you’d prefer an in-depth educational tour and tasting, a wine & food pairing, or something else. Tastings take place in various sites on the property, including the lovely Hospitality Center, which is surrounded by vineyards, and the beautiful stone patio.
Fascinating Fact:
Jack Cakebread studied with Ansel Adams, one of America’s acknowledged photographic masters, from 1957 to 1966.
