Persian inspired winery architecture in the Napa Valley
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
One of Napa Valley’s most visually stunning wineries, 22,000-square-foot Darioush evokes Persepolis, the great Persian capital of ancient times. The winery is a graceful gathering of monumental freestanding columns, yellow travertine stone, fountains, lush gardens, and even an amphitheatre for events and performances.
Yet the architecture, with its clean and lean lines, maintains a modern sensibility. Inside, the visitor center is dazzling, a wide-open space filled with vibrant color, big marble columns, comfortable and modern Italian leather couches, gorgeous art, and a cascading fall of water.
Owner Darioush Khaledi grew up in one of Iran’s premier wine-growing regions, Shiraz, and consequently developed a passion for wine at an early age. Arriving in Southern California in the early 1970s, he purchased a grocery store and spent the next few decades transforming it into a grocery empire.
When he turned his attention to making wine, his goal was simple: producing the best wines in the most beautiful setting possible.
Fascinating Fact:
The travertine stone used in the winery comes from the same quarry that provided the stone that built Persepolis centuries ago.
