Napa Valley winery and tasting room on the Silverado Trail

Paraduxx is a blended red wine based primarily on Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, with one or more other varietals—primarily Merlot and/or Cabernet Franc—sometimes added. The blending process used is complex as well as time- and labor-intensive, and the resulting blend is barrel-aged for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak. Each vintage features a label with an artist’s rendering of a pair of ducks.

The pun inherent in the wine’s name is enhanced by the fact that Paraduxx is owned by the Duckhorn family (who are also the proprietors of Duckhorn Vineyards).

Take note of the uniquely-designed, ten-sided fermentation cellar; inspired by traditional round barns, it’s actually a state-of-the-art winemaking facility.

Although modeled after an old-style Napa Valley farmhouse, the tasting facility—known as the Paraduxx Vineyard House—is actually quite contemporary.

Exposed beams and natural light lend an earthy feel. The furnishings manage to be simultaneously luxurious and low-key. Huge windows overlook the vineyards and the Mayacamas mountains in the distance.

On warm days you may prefer to sit outside, on the covered patio, enjoying the vast view.

Fascinating Fact:

A scene from the 1995 Golden Globe winning movie Walk in the Clouds, which starred Keanu Reeves, was filmed at Paraduxx.
