Napa Valley winery and tasting room on the Silverado Trail
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
Dr. Robert Sinskey had always loved wine and found the idea of making his own to be quite appealing. So in 1988, in preparation for his upcoming retirement, he bought 15 Napa acres planted to vines. But then, thanks to Sinskey’s invention of a lens that revolutionized cataract surgery and catapulted him to fame, his retirement was delayed.
His son Rob stepped in to temporarily manage the vineyards (by this time there were 100 acres), but before his six-month stint was up he had fallen in love with the wine business. Today Rob Sinskey—whose official title is Daydream Believer and Vintner—runs the winery.
Wine tastings here are always accompanied by small appetizers made on site—in fact, an open kitchen is next to the tasting bar.
The gorgeous, cathedral-like winery, built of Napa Valley stone and California redwood, has a 35-foot high ceiling and huge windows. Wine is aged in the 18,000-square-foot cave system, and in warm weather the extensive organic garden is filled with a wide assortment of culinary herbs and vegetables.
