Winery on the Silverado Trail side of Napa Valley
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
In 1972, John Shafer said goodbye to a 23-year career in the publishing industry and moved with his family from Chicago to the Napa Valley. There the Shafers purchased 210 acres of land in the Stag’s Leap District, and were soon immersed in terracing the steep, rocky hillsides and planting new vines.
After five years of concentrating on growing grapes they made the jump to producing their first wine in 1978. A Cabernet Sauvignon, it went on to take First Place in an international blind tasting held in Germany, triumphing over major Bordeaux wines such as Chateau Margaux and Chateau Latour.
No wonder Shafer wines have been served in the White House to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip of Britain!
Visits to Shafer Vineyards are relaxed and intimate, with a maximum 10 guests at a time. You’ll get an overview of Shafer’s history and wine-making process, and enjoy a sit-down tasting of 5 wines.
Fascinating Fact:
Tucker and Tanner—the winery’s resident yellow lab and golden retriever—greet all guests. They’re so popular that they have their own Facebook fan page.
