If this winery’s name rings a bell, that’s probably because you’ve eaten a Clif Bar while hiking a trail or riding a bike. Clif Family Winery & Farm is owned by Gary Erickson and Kit Crawford; Erickson founded Clif Bar & Company in 1992, and both share the company’s CEO position.
On their farm they raise turkeys, chickens, fruit and vegetables, and maintain a thriving olive orchard. They source organic grapes from excellent local growers, creating wines blended from several varietals. The wines have a reputation for value and high quality.
The winery’s tasting room, Velo Vino, is located in a handsome Craftsman-style building in St. Helena. It’s a unique destination, reflecting the family’s many passions. You can have an enjoyable time sampling the wine, choosing from several different flights. But you can also pick up bike maps to local wineries, purchase a colorful biking jersey and other athletic apparel, sample the farm’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil, taste the latest Clif Bar flavors, sip espresso, and much more.

Fascinating Fact:

On a 175-mile bike ride in 1990, Erickson took a bite of a then-popular energy bar, and realized he could make a better one. So he did.
