Historic Yountville, CA wine shop & wine tasting
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
Groezinger’s wine store offers wines primarily from small-production wineries in Napa and Sonoma Valleys and the Central Coast. Some of these wineries produce extremely small case lots, and their wines are sold only at Groezinger’s.
You’ll find some rare, high-quality wine gems on the shelves here, and outgoing owners Rick Beard and Justin Rush will happily assist your search.
The original home of Groezinger's Wine Merchant was in a beautiful cut fieldstone building on the National Register of Historic Places know known as V Marketplace. It was built as a winery in 1870 by German-born Gottlieb Groezinger. The Groezinger family sold the property in 1889 but the name stuck and a winery stayed in operation there until 1955. The current shop in in a much newer brick building a block and a half away with purple-painted walls dotted with Grateful Dead posters.
At the rear is a sleek metal counter used for tastings on an as-demand basis—that is, if there’s enough demand, it’s used. Friday afternoons tend to be good times to drop by for the usually-generous sampling of whatever is being poured that day.
Bottom line: If you’re looking for a structured or tame wine-tasting experience, go elsewhere; if you’re open for adventure, come on in.
