Yountville, CA winery tasting room and antique shop
Napa Valley & Sonoma Wine Tasting Tours
-------------------------------------------------
In 2001, after more than two decades growing grapes and providing vineyard management to top Napa Valley wineries, the Hill Family—Doug and Darci, and their children Carly and Ryan—took a big step: they decided to harness their years of expertise and create wines of their own. Soon they gained an enthusiastic reception for their vineyard-designated Merlot, Beau Terre, and a proprietary blend called Origin.
The winery’s Yountville tasting room is located inside an antique shop (owned by the Hill family, the shop specializes in French country antique furniture). The tasting bar is small—definitely not a good destination for larger groups—but the atmosphere is convivial and relaxed.
The tasting selection always includes four wines. An appointment-only “Secret Garden Tour” takes you to Hill Family Farms and Jacobsen Orchards, where you’ll sample fresh fruits and vegetables before retiring to the Hill home for a flight of wine accompanied by snacks and stories.
Fascinating Fact:
In 2006, Ryan Hill collaborated with winemaker Alison Green-Doran to create a wood-staining mixture from red wine (among other ingredients). The mix was used to stain 100 60th Anniversary Fender Stratocaster guitars. Since then, Hill has engaged in other “Stained Projects” involving surfboards, baseball bats, and various other objects.
